Centennial events for March 2014: “A Day in the Life” photo exhibit & the Soweto Gospel ChoirPublished by Andy Sween on Wed, 2014-02-12 16:37
We invite all of our customers to help us celebrate our 100th birthday this year in one of the many events we’re planning during 2014.
Our next Centennial event will coincide with the Downtown Business Association’s First Friday art walk on Friday, March 7. The west foyer of Grand Rapids State Bank's Financial Services Center (506 NW 2nd Avenue) will be transformed into a gallery filled with photographs showcasing the people of Grand Rapids and the natural beauty that surrounds us. From logging trucks to kids enjoying Tioga Beach, from ice fishermen to Reif Center dancers, these photos tell many stories of life in Itasca County. Meet the photographers who captured the essence of "Up North" living and enjoy images of the people who make Grand Rapids home. Refreshments and music will be provided.
Just two days later, on Sunday, March 9, Grand Rapids State Bank is proud to welcome and sponsor the Soweto Gospel Choir to the Reif Center. This South African choir celebrates the unique and inspirational power of African gospel music. Join us at 7:30 pm for the concert and then stay for refreshments and an informal meet-and-greet with choir members. Tickets are available at the usual outlets.
We kicked things off in January with an amazing “local artist” variety show at the Reif Center, and just last Friday opened a historical photo and artifact exhibit at the Itasca County Historical Society (ICHS). The exhibit was exquisitely assembled by the ICHS volunteers and is a marvelous representation of the history of GRSB beginning with its 1914 inception in Warba. If you weren’t able to make it to the First Friday opening, no worries; the display will be available throughout 2014 so there’s still time to see it.
