Jenna Akre, a new GRSB teller, seems to have a permanent smile on her face. Could it be because her new daughter, Elouise, is so wonderful?
“She is a real joy,” said Jenna. And then she smiled again.
Jenna began work at GRSB last October but took maternity leave from April through June. Since she had a year of tellering experience, taking three months’ leave after working only six months didn’t disrupt her training plan too badly.
Jenna graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 2010 and worked in an assisted living residence in Grand Rapids. She loved her clients, and really “adopted” one in particular. “I really enjoyed taking care of my clients, but I had a difficult time after one of my clients passed away,” Jenna explained. “I didn’t realize that I had developed such personal connections, and the job became a lot more difficult after that. I quickly decided that working in a bank suited me better.”
Jenna attended ICC right after graduating. Although she has yet to complete her AA she is looking forward to when the time is right to go back to school. She was able to take advantage of an “amazing” college-sponsored trip to Spain her first year of college. “It was life-changing,” she explained.
Jenna likes customer interaction, and at Grand Rapids State Bank she especially appreciates the calm, professional atmosphere. “The work from day to day is a lot the same, but with such a variety of people to assist, the job never becomes boring. Also, I really enjoy the people I work with,” added Jenna, “and working here is great.”
Jenna grew up on a farm near Hill City, raised goats and participated in 4H. She can’t wait for her daughter to be old enough to be a Cloverbud, the entry-level 4H rank.
Jenna’s husband, Brian, works for Orion Corporation, an organization that provides service to people with mental disabilities. “He has lots of patience,” explained Jenna.
As the youngest of four girls, Jenna now realizes how valuable being part of a family can be. One of her sisters, her mother and her husband all help to care for Elouise while she is at work. “My sisters and I did what sisters do when we were growing up,” said Jenna, “but now we are very close, and they are truly my closest friends. One of my sisters lives in Pengilly, so we talk every day. The other two live in Wisconsin and North Carolina, but we talk often.”
Jenna has been married for a little more than a year, and life is good. “The biggest adjustment was that my maiden name is Yotter,” she explained. “With a new last name of Akre, now I’m an ‘A.’ I don’t know what to do with myself.”
Somehow, with a new family and a new job, we think Jenna will find plenty to keep her busy.
